Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake is closest to God Brahma temple, and one of Pushkar’s most serene places to see. According to legend, it is here that Brahma and Savitri gave their prayers. A dip in this holy river is believed to be Moksha’s harbinger-birth-free. The lake has several ghats, particularly designed to take baths and give prayers. About Pushkar Lake

This is growing in importance among spiritual travelers who seek a holy dip in the lake, which is considered a holy place and the King of ‘Tirthas.’ Having a holy dip here is considered to be equal to doing hundred years of meditation and prayer. Hence, people who practice a specific religion are most frequented with this. To others and religious people included, That place is in itself a beauty. The lake is surrounded by 400 temples and 52 palaces, and still looks calm and serene. The location is beautiful, and from here the sunrise and sunset are lovely to see.

Brahma Temple

It is one of only a few Brahma temples that now exist in India. The temple was built in the 14th century also known as the Jagatpita Brahma Mandir. The temple was constructed with stone and marble and features a red pinnacle. The walls have bird motifs decorating them. Images of Brahma in sanctum sanctorum have been mounted. A peculiar tradition followed here is that this position is reserved for ascetics or sanyasis only, and that married men are not permitted to enter the sanctum sanctorum. The architectural beauty of this temple, especially the pillared outdoor hall and the numerous marble steps leading to the temple, is simply amazing. The temple can be visited throughout the year but with a festival dedicated to Lord Brahma, October and November are the most significant months.

About Brahma Temple

Savitri Temple

The Savitri Mata Temple is situated on Ratnagiri Hill, and is one of the most famous places to visit in Pushkar. It is believed to be the place where Goddess Savitri, after revolting with her husband over marrying another woman, finds some peace.

The temple is said to have been built by her, and acted as a lookout from which she could watch the movements of her husband. The temple houses Goddesses Savitri and Gayatri’s idols. The path to the temple goes through the hills, so that you can pass through the Ratnagiri Hill to the temple. This path also has a important religious meaning, as it is considered a penance of our sins.

Apteshwar Temple

About Apteshwar Temple

The Temple of Apteshwar was built by Lord Brahma himself famously to appease Lord Shiva. It is built inside a cave right next to the Brahma temple and can easily be visited enroute to the temple of Brahma. This temple too is part of an interesting folklore and thus an important pilgrimage site for Lord Shiva’s devotees.

Varaha Temple

Varaha Temple is one of Pushkar’s largest and oldest shrines. The temple is dedicated to Varaha, an embodiment of the boar Lord Vishnu. This temple was built in the 12th century, and is an architectural marvel. The then Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, was killed at Varaha Temple because he was offended by the portrayal of a man’s body with a boar ‘s head in the shrine. The temple was rebuilt by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727.

About Varaha Temple

Varaha Temple is worth a visit, due to its rarity, being one of the very rare temples dedicated to the varaha incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It was part of a main temple demolished by Aurangzeb, according to a legend, and proof of the same can be found close by. This is also one of the oldest temples across Rajasthan, as is evident from its current condition and architecture. It is close to the main city, and it is conveniently accessible from nearby markets.

Rangji Temple

Rangji Temple is one of the town’s newest temples and was built in 1823 under Seth Puran Mal Ganeriwal ‘s guidance.
